Community development is a process through which the community is empowered to understand, identify and act on needs in their environment. Education is one way of empowering people through knowledge-sharing.

Another aspect of community development that well-educated students provide, is an economic one. By having more degrees, certificates, and skills, students are able to take more profitable jobs and cultivate longer careers with greater earning potential.

As members of their community, educated and trained individuals have improved economic circumstances that allow them to contribute in a very basic way by patronizing the businesses in their community.
